Who are you and what do you do?
I am Emma Samways and I run a corporate event management company based in the South West of England, InEvents. Our tagline is “#MakingMemories”.
How have you found your start-up journey so far?
Hard. Challenging. Amazing. Starting my own business has given me the most amazing sense of achievement and some soaring highs. Every time someone says “yes” to your company it just reaffirms everything you believe in and why you are doing this. On the opposite side it has been lonely, frustrating and a steep learning curve. However, whenever I have those days I ask myself “what would rather do instead?” Every time, I have answered with “nothing”. This is the only think I want to do.
What do you listen to whilst you work?
I love Radio 4 Extra dramas on the iPlayer.
What drives you to get up in the morning?
I think a real zest for life. I have so many thinks that bring me joy. I am an early bird so tend to start my days with a good work out before hit the emails. I have amazing clients who share my vision for events and who I am able to make a real difference to their businesses. Then I end my days catching up with friends. That is a pretty good life I think.
What three things can’t you live without?
Humm well if we are talking physicals things it would be my phone, car and a cup of tea. But, if we are getting deep and meaning full, life would be much worse without laughter, exercise and love.
What’s your best time-saving trick?
Outlook reminders. I set them for everything. They mean I never forget a thing.
What have you learnt that you’d like others to know?
Hard work really does pay off and being nice to people is worth the effort.
Where do you see yourself and your business in 12 months?
I would love to have an office and a member of staff and to be well on the way to being booked up for 2018.
The best advice you’ve ever received?
“You should start your own business”.
Fill in the blank. I’d like to see ___ answer these same questions!
Jane Austen!! Make that happen Ash!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I look at this quote when I get up every day.
“Successful people are not gifted; they just work hard, then succeed on purpose.”
